How NYTCross.com handles data — in short: we don’t collect much, we don’t sell anything, and we don’t track you across the web.

Last updated: May 2026

TL;DR. We don’t require an account. We don’t collect personal information. We use standard server logs and minimal analytics to understand which pages people visit. We don’t sell or share data with third parties for advertising.

What we collect

When you visit NYTCross.com, our servers automatically receive standard request data — your IP address, the page URL you requested, the referring URL, your browser’s user-agent string, and the time of the request. This is standard for any website on the internet and is necessary to deliver the page to you.

We may use a privacy-respecting analytics tool to count page views and understand which puzzles and clues people look up most. The analytics tool we use does not set cross-site cookies and does not build profiles of individual visitors.

What we don’t collect

  • We don’t require you to create an account or provide an email address to use the site.
  • We don’t set advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.
  • We don’t sell any data to anyone.
  • We don’t share data with advertising networks, data brokers, or social media platforms for retargeting.

Cookies

We use only essential first-party cookies necessary for the site to function (for example, remembering whether you’ve toggled the grid reveal). We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

Third-party services

We load web fonts from Google Fonts to render the site’s typography. Google may receive request metadata (your IP and user-agent) when your browser fetches the font files; their privacy policy governs that data.

Children

NYTCross.com is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under that age. If you believe we have inadvertently received such information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to how we handle data, we’ll update this page and revise the “last updated” date at the top. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
